Surveillance

Surveillance refers to keeping an eye on a place, using surveillance equipment, whether for informational, protectionist or deterrent purposes. In fact, this watching can involve three main areas: visual monitoring, voice monitoring and spinning.

Derivatives

Monitoring, based on its feasibility, can be done in real time: this is the case when using wireless equipment (wifi, GSM) for instant a transmission of data (photos, videos, sound). It can also be done offline: the data is stored on memory cards that need to be retrieved after the fact.  Both of these methods involve remote monitoring, but some devices allow the user to be present and record.

Context and use

Surveillance can be used in two distinct contexts. On the one hand, there is assertive surveillance, which is rather deterrence and informative.  It is used for securing buildings and property for individuals or businesses, public places. Fleet GPS tracking is also part of it. On the other hand, there is the discreet surveillance, known as a spy, which is used when the act of surveillance is unlawful. The material is tiny, often camouflaged. In any case, they can both be used for information gathering.

Types

According to large families of equipment, there are three types of surveillance. Visual monitoring refers to observing the subject (place, person): the use of surveillance camera. Voice monitoring, on the other hand, is the act of capturing and recording sounds (conversation and ambient noise): microphones and recorders are eagerly requested. Finally, spinning involves the use of trackers to inform the movements of a good or a person.
