Communication, however, is done by cellular or wifi data network, unlike the real walkie-talkie that communicates with radio waves.
The use of cellular data offers a great advantage: there is no distance limit. Only phones need good network or wifi coverage. Otherwise its effectiveness can be compromised. The ordinary walkie-talkie itself, is not limited by network coverage, but it has a lesser reach. There are, however, long-range walkie-talkies which can reach 7km or more.
